Only One Event Left!
This past Sunday marked our next to last autox event. Turned out pretty well actually. It was at the Arnot Mall. The weather was great. We had 34 registered cars. We event got 9 runs in. What more can you ask for? Only one other car in ST – a Jetta that had some suspension work (no idea what though). I won the class and had best time for all of the Street Touring classes. I think I was even 5th overall (PAX) out of the 34 drivers. I’ve also got results, pics and videos from the day! Results: http://www.glen-scca.org/Solo/2009/Results20090913.asp …
AutoX on the Dirt
It’s called Rallycross (or RallyX). And it is awesome. Spent today at Blackrock Speedway in Dundee running rallyx with 15 other people. Couldn’t have planned a better Saturday. It’s just like it sounds… setup a course of cones like we would normally do in a parking lot… except on dirt. We happened to be using a dirt oval track and its infield for our course. Crazy fun. Pics are up and available here. I only got a chance to take about 20 or so. We had two run groups (and 8 runs – done before 3pm) so I didn’t really …
The Joy of Autocross
It should be a book. One fast, page turning book. That… and EVERYONE should have to autox once or twice in order to get a driver’s license. I guarantee we would have a lot less accidents if people actually had to learn how to control their cars and push them to the limits… Anyway, on to the fun. We had a double event this past weekend – though Jen and I only went up on Saturday since the weather was better that day. It was a two course day… so you would run one course in the morning and the …
Summer is Great
Along with summer being autocross season and… well, racing season in general, it is also car show season. Now my car isn’t really what I would consider to be a “show car.” But it cleans up pretty well and I try to represent the SCCA, autocrossers, and Scion owners at some shows when I can. I don’t have tens of thousands of $$ invested or anything like that, so I don’t ever expect to actually win anything, but it’s still fun to hang out. With a 4 week break in autox events, this weekend was a good time to get …
That Thing I Do
I almost totally forgot to post about RACING! That’s right, the 2009 Solo season officially kicked off a few weeks ago. I took first of two entries in the ST class… by quite a wide margin. No matter though, it was good to get racing again and have some fun. It was a long winter. I can has videos? More here! I’ve already started more upgrades. OK, well really I was just completing upgrades I didn’t finish last year. Specifically some camber bolts for the front. Camber? Ya… camber… it’s the angle between the vertical axis of the wheel and …
2009 Season is Coming
Just a little less than 3 months to go until the 2009 AutoX season kicks off for the Glen Region. Here’s a little teaser video from MSNBC/Hulu on what exactly it is that I do… Almost makes me want to get a Mini… if only I could stand the interior.
Another Plaque on the Wall
I was able to add another plaque to my “trophy wall” last night. We had our 2008 Glen Region SCCA awards banquet. Dinner and fun were had by all and of course, awards presented for the 2008 season. That included an award for my 2008 STS class championship. I’ll be the first to admit though, that I didn’t really have much for consistent, close competition for the year. I had some consistent competition, but not so close. And some close competition, but not so consistent (not many events). So I kind of won it by default. Does that mean I …
Getting More Involved
So obviously I’m a car guy and a racer. I’m incredibly far from any sort of pro at it… but it is fun and one of the few things I’m actually involved in outside of work. Tonight I’ll be heading to our SCCA membership meeting with the intention of being “elected” next year’s Secretary for the region. I quoted that b/c I really didn’t have anyone running against me and I was originally only intending to be on the Board of Directors but they didn’t have anyone running for Secretary… so there I was. I suppose it’s a bit like …
Whoa, Whoa, Whoa!
So busy… I just totally forget about this. And when I think about an idea to post, I get sidetracked or end up not wanting to post it. So here’s your overall update… Home: Jen and I are doing well. She’s working crappy hours still but we’re doing OK with it. We spend pretty much the entire remainder of our free time together. Not to mention that she’s actually started racing with me. So I suppose you could say that we’re starting to share a few more interests… She races with me at autox events and I occasionally read a …
