Rallycross, Demolition Derby, Whatever
I suppose I didn’t officially post anything on our most recent event. So here you go… We had a rallyx event outside of Syracuse (in Weedsport). Jen and I were up around 4-4:30am this past Sunday to drive 2 hours to the event. The course(s) was soft and rutted from the previous week’s rain. Nearly not drivable… and in hindsight, I probably shouldn’t have run at all. They did at least have some equipment available to work on the course (couple rollers, tractor, backhoe) and it really did need it. They were out there multiple times through the day as …
Only One Event Left!
This past Sunday marked our next to last autox event. Turned out pretty well actually. It was at the Arnot Mall. The weather was great. We had 34 registered cars. We event got 9 runs in. What more can you ask for? Only one other car in ST – a Jetta that had some suspension work (no idea what though). I won the class and had best time for all of the Street Touring classes. I think I was even 5th overall (PAX) out of the 34 drivers. I’ve also got results, pics and videos from the day! Results: http://www.glen-scca.org/Solo/2009/Results20090913.asp …
AutoX on the Dirt
It’s called Rallycross (or RallyX). And it is awesome. Spent today at Blackrock Speedway in Dundee running rallyx with 15 other people. Couldn’t have planned a better Saturday. It’s just like it sounds… setup a course of cones like we would normally do in a parking lot… except on dirt. We happened to be using a dirt oval track and its infield for our course. Crazy fun. Pics are up and available here. I only got a chance to take about 20 or so. We had two run groups (and 8 runs – done before 3pm) so I didn’t really …
The Joy of Autocross
It should be a book. One fast, page turning book. That… and EVERYONE should have to autox once or twice in order to get a driver’s license. I guarantee we would have a lot less accidents if people actually had to learn how to control their cars and push them to the limits… Anyway, on to the fun. We had a double event this past weekend – though Jen and I only went up on Saturday since the weather was better that day. It was a two course day… so you would run one course in the morning and the …
Let Me Check My Schedule
Sometimes I forget how busy the summer is. And now that July is winding down and moving into August, I think I’m seeing it a bit more. Here’s what I have coming up the next few weeks: 8/2 – AutoX, Seneca 8/8 – Family Reunion 8/15 – AutoX, CCC 8/16 – 607 Car Show, Corning 8/23 – Old Tyme Car Show, Elmira (maybe) OK, so it’s not booked solid or anything but after having an autox last weekend, a car show today, and then moving into that schedule. I feel a bit swamped. That doesn’t mean I’m giving any of …
Event This Weekend
If anyone is going to be in the Ithaca area on Sunday, we will have an event at the Shops at Ithaca Mall (Pyramid Mall). We use the lot behind Target… and hopefully this year it won’t be raining. It’s not a bad place… the pavement is new so everything is super smooth – but also not incredibly grippy. Biggest problem though is maintaining our Paddock area for the pits. Our lot is right next to the entrance for the theater so people end up coming over and parking in our spaces. Hopefully we can control that a bit more …
It's Sort of Official-ish
I’m now sort of officially sponsored by Corbeau Seats! Ordered a set of new racing seats, installation brackets, and harnesses just today. Should be here possibly late this week or very early next week. Of course pics will be forthcoming. This is really just a “partial” sponsorship though – meaning I didn’t get the parts for free or anything – but for a nice discount. Can’t wait to get them installed! Should be quite nice. Not to mention this is my first actual sponsorship! Not anything major but nice to have anyway. Many thanks to Corbeau and like I said, …
Summer is Great
Along with summer being autocross season and… well, racing season in general, it is also car show season. Now my car isn’t really what I would consider to be a “show car.” But it cleans up pretty well and I try to represent the SCCA, autocrossers, and Scion owners at some shows when I can. I don’t have tens of thousands of $$ invested or anything like that, so I don’t ever expect to actually win anything, but it’s still fun to hang out. With a 4 week break in autox events, this weekend was a good time to get …
Whaaa?
It’s June already. Who knew? Happenings recently include spending last weekend at Watkins Glen watching the Koni Challenge and Rolex Series races. Pretty awesome. Got burnt, took some pics, had fun. Didn’t get to camp there like I was planning… but some day I’ll actually have the $$ to do that (it’s not expensive, I just couldn’t spare it). Hopefully I’ll get to go up again in a few weeks for Indy weekend and at least catch some of the SPEED World Challenge. Finally getting rid of my crappy phone. I currently have a Helio Ocean that really hasn’t been …
