Left Hand Never Talks to the Right

There’s a disconnect somewhere and I’m not sure where it is. With Discover Card, that is. I got a phone call tonight from some girl at Discover asking me why I hadn’t activated the most recent card they had sent me. The answer, simply, was because I had shredded it. The long answer though, is because they continue to send me extra cards. I probably could not tell you how many cards they’ve sent me [...]

Goodbye January, Hello Groundhog!

Never done this before, but thought I’d do a quick wrap up of posts from the past month. Some “highlights” … if you will. So here we go: New Year = Old Year: Lots of people make a huge deal about the new year and resolutions. I don’t. I Still Hate You, TWC: Aside from the ongoing DVR issues, TWC can’t even get me a free Showtime preview weekend. iPhone 4, AT&T or Verizon: The [...]

New Credit Card Milestone?

It didn’t occur to me until just a few minutes ago (literally) that my Citibank card is now below $3000. I honestly cannot remember the last time that that balance has been below that mark. At a minimum it has to be at least 5 years. Likely 6 or 7 years or more, as that was one of the first credit cards I’d ever signed up for. This may not sound like a huge deal… [...]

Can’t Save Money

We were watching some Top Gear USA tonight… The one where they went to Vegas. Jen and I were thinking that it would be nice to go to Vegas sometime. It’s something that has been on my list for a while. I got to see Atlantic City once. But Vegas is a whole other beast as far as I’m concerned. One that needs conquerering. Now to just figure out how… Flights? Looks like about $500/person, [...]

More Money for Me! Sort Of

Two years ago this June I took a small loan out of my 401k to pay down some bills (like $1300 I think). It felt much easier to pay that back via my paycheck on a schedule I choose than to pay whatever bill it was (I forget what it went towards exactly). The payments I setup were only about $27 per paycheck (every 2 weeks). It seemed easier this way because that money would [...]

That’s What I Call Progress

Slow and steady. That’s all I need. Just need to make some sort of progress on the whole “debt” thing. And if this chart (via Credit Karma) is any indication, it’s happening. Ya, there was a little hiccup there in July last year, but I knew about that one. The points on the graph are actually the “average” balance for that particular month. The April number there is around $53k and the February number right [...]

Tax Season is Over (for me)

Tomorrow will finish off this years 2009/2010 tax season for me. My NY state refund should be deposited tomorrow morning and that’ll be the last of my tax activity for this year. The “pending” transaction has actually been in my checking account for 3 or 4 days, so I know it’ll go through (not just guessing here). Thankfully I haven’t really budgeted that money for anything specific (only $110 anyway) so it’ll really just be [...]

Collections Account PAID OFF

I’m working on the “more money” part. Eventually. Today I was able to schedule my final collections payment of $500. FINALLY. It has taken almost 4 years… and about $7000, but I’m officially done. And I now officially will have $250 more per month to pay other things. Specifically most of that will to my other credit cards. Even if I don’t use the full $250 to pay those down, I’ll be able to make [...]

One Step Forward, 35 Steps Back

On the same day that I discover that my “total debt” has finally gone below $50k (school, car, credit, etc), I get some of the bills for my little hospital visit. Who knew an appendectomy could cost $15k? Well that’s at least the full itemized statement that is being sent to my insurance. I also received another “Statement of Physician Services” that says I have $462.70 due. So I’m really not sure what is what [...]

Seesaws Are Usually Fun

Except when it involves my money. My revolving debt is up again. Or at least since May. I don’t know what my June numbers looked like, but probably not great. Sad part is I can’t even speak to what exactly the money was spent on. Regardless, the total is going up and it sucks. On the other side of the seesaw, my other debts are dropping. I only owe about $6200 on my car (yes, [...]
