Where Has the Common Sense Gone?

Being in IT, you would see a lot of stupid things throughout your career… or even every day. Today is no exception. There seems to be a new trojan-laced spam email circulating lately (just starting to see it here today). Here is what it says (obvious items removed for obvious reasons): Dear Customer, This e-mail was send by [company name removed] to notify you that we have temporanly prevented access to your account. Dear Microsoft, I Hate You

And not even for the reasons you might think. This one is something specific. Windows XP Display Properties. Suck. Hard. Ever try to control multiple displays or extended desktop with Windows? It is absolutely awful. Really is torturous. Funny part is that it LOOKS like it should be easy and consistent. Of course we all know looks can be are deceiving. So if you have two displays connected to a Windows system, you can go [...]

What Do People Do

What do people really do for computer problems if they don’t know an IT person? I mean I occasionally help out people I know, but what about everyone else? Do that many people really rely on something like Geek Squad to help them? Do they maybe just suffer through it and ignore the problems? That is to say… They must be having problems. Desktop: Lian-Li Black Brushed Aluminum Case [...]

I'm a Dork

I know this. I’ve accepted it. What now? Well as some of you may or may not know, there is currently a beta of Windows 7 floating around. I was finally able to get a key from the Microsoft site and just downloaded the beta from one of my “usual” sites, so it’s still legit. Trouble is that I didn’t want to disrupt the current “OK-ness” of my Vista desktop. It has been fairly stable [...]

I Just Had To!

Hard drives are getting cheaper. It’s like a rule or something. When I first built my system I added one fast 74gb drive for the OS and one 500gb drive for storage. That 500gb drive cost me about $110. I later added another 500gb drive for about $95 and then even later added a 500gb external drive for about $120 (yes, I currently have over 1.5tb of storage – though 500gb is strictly backup). There [...]
