Looking Ahead to This Season

When it comes to autox, I would call it one of the very few things that I truly enjoy doing anytime I get to do it. Even on a bad day I’m still having a good time. Normally every year you would try to improve in some way – whether it is the car or the driver or both. Usually you try for both. It’s common that many drivers spend their off season buying parts, prepping the car, just getting setup for a long season to come. The past few years have contained a lot of that for me. Each …

A Dilemma, with Cars

My tC will be 5 years old in just a few months… seems like a long time. Certainly the longest period I’ve ever kept the same car – but that’s not incredibly hard considering everything else was practically a POS. So here is my quandary… I’ve modded the crap out of the one I have – at least to my liking. I will continue to do autox this year (and maybe into next year) and would like to be able to improve. I’d still like to redo my suspension again with some nice coilovers (with some ridiculously stiffer springs). BUT… …

Already? Really?

There was snow today. Yes… snow. It didn’t stick, but there was SNOW. FUCK! Jay Paterno noticed the snow today too. But he’s 150 miles south in State College. He tweeted these two pics today and as you can see, it stuck a bit down there. Should make for an interesting football game this weekend if it sticks around. I’m seriously not ready for snow. I mean, I am in some ways. But I do not want it to come yet. I realize this is not incredibly unusual… I definitely recall trick or treating in 6″ of snow back in …

Only One Event Left!

This past Sunday marked our next to last autox event. Turned out pretty well actually. It was at the Arnot Mall. The weather was great. We had 34 registered cars. We event got 9 runs in. What more can you ask for? Only one other car in ST – a Jetta that had some suspension work (no idea what though). I won the class and had best time for all of the Street Touring classes. I think I was even 5th overall (PAX) out of the 34 drivers. I’ve also got results, pics and videos from the day! Results: http://www.glen-scca.org/Solo/2009/Results20090913.asp …

Healing, Slowly. An Update

I’m doing OK. Still taking it easy, but doing OK. Will be going back to work on Monday – but still taking it pretty slow. I don’t have any stitches to rip out, but there are still some “steristrips” on me that are keeping my insides in. Ok, maybe they’re not doing that much, but they need to stay there until they fall off on their own. I’m OK to shower, but I’m trying to do that as little as possible… which is gross, actually. I don’t understand how people can even go 24 hours without showering. It’s freakin disgusting. …

The Joy of Autocross

It should be a book. One fast, page turning book. That… and EVERYONE should have to autox once or twice in order to get a driver’s license. I guarantee we would have a lot less accidents if people actually had to learn how to control their cars and push them to the limits… Anyway, on to the fun. We had a double event this past weekend – though Jen and I only went up on Saturday since the weather was better that day. It was a two course day… so you would run one course in the morning and the …

Let Me Check My Schedule

Sometimes I forget how busy the summer is. And now that July is winding down and moving into August, I think I’m seeing it a bit more. Here’s what I have coming up the next few weeks: 8/2 – AutoX, Seneca 8/8 – Family Reunion 8/15 – AutoX, CCC 8/16 – 607 Car Show, Corning 8/23 – Old Tyme Car Show, Elmira (maybe) OK, so it’s not booked solid or anything but after having an autox last weekend, a car show today, and then moving into that schedule. I feel a bit swamped. That doesn’t mean I’m giving any of …

Event This Weekend

If anyone is going to be in the Ithaca area on Sunday, we will have an event at the Shops at Ithaca Mall (Pyramid Mall). We use the lot behind Target… and hopefully this year it won’t be raining. It’s not a bad place… the pavement is new so everything is super smooth – but also not incredibly grippy. Biggest problem though is maintaining our Paddock area for the pits. Our lot is right next to the entrance for the theater so people end up coming over and parking in our spaces. Hopefully we can control that a bit more …

It's Sort of Official-ish

I’m now sort of officially sponsored by Corbeau Seats! Ordered a set of new racing seats, installation brackets, and harnesses just today. Should be here possibly late this week or very early next week. Of course pics will be forthcoming. This is really just a “partial” sponsorship though – meaning I didn’t get the parts for free or anything – but for a nice discount. Can’t wait to get them installed! Should be quite nice. Not to mention this is my first actual sponsorship! Not anything major but nice to have anyway. Many thanks to Corbeau and like I said, …

Summer is Great

Along with summer being autocross season and… well, racing season in general, it is also car show season. Now my car isn’t really what I would consider to be a “show car.” But it cleans up pretty well and I try to represent the SCCA, autocrossers, and Scion owners at some shows when I can. I don’t have tens of thousands of $$ invested or anything like that, so I don’t ever expect to actually win anything, but it’s still fun to hang out. With a 4 week break in autox events, this weekend was a good time to get …
