Randomness
This page is just for random things I find on the internet that were difficult for me to find and I thought I’d list those things here for Google to index and be easier to find. Typically if something is hard for me to find on the internet, it’s nearly impossible for a lot of other people.
- The IT Crowd Theme Song – Right click and save target/file to download the opening intro theme song for The IT Crowd. It’s just the theme from an awesome show on the BBC about a small group of IT people. I can relate to them for sure… and this mp3 was a pain in the ass to find. I had to use the way back machine to find it. Even then it wasn’t easy. So there you go. You’re welcome.
- Delete Compress Old Files Registry Key – This reg file will delete the Compress Old Files entry in the registry of Windows XP that may be causing your Disk Cleanup program to take forever or go really slow on the Compress Old Files portion. Essentially it’s not even required and I don’t think it should be on by default. But if you run this .reg file and then run the Disk Cleanup again, it’ll work normally. Of course, I’m not responsible if you do something stupid to your computer or if anything were to go wrong. Use at your own risk… blah blah blah.
- Windows Vista: Windows Update Failed, Error Code 8000FFFF – Some say it’s caused by bad memory or other hardware issues. Some say there is a registry key that can be changed. For me, I uninstalled update KB929777, rebooted, and ran Windows update again without issue. That update (KB929777) is actually the one that fails in the first place. Seems that it installs the first time but fails to tell Vista that it did and you will continually be prompted to install it and it will fail every time. So try going to the Control Panel -> Programs and Features -> View Installed Updates and uninstall KB929777. Restart your computer and try Windows Update again. This worked for me, hopefully it will for you as well. If not… there are a few other ideas out there. Good luck.
More to come as I encounter things…
