Hey Yelp, Fuck You and Your Horse

Before I dive into this… you should read this Wired article from a couple years ago about Yelp and some “fraud allegations.” Article Here Very short version is that Yelp was being accused (by many) of strong-arming small businesses into paying up to bury negative reviews and “favorite” positive ones to get a better overall review on the service. Those are some pretty serious allegations for a site that is supposed to be user driven [...]

Dear Republicans: You Can’t Be This Stupid

Before you read my words, you may want to read these: Rick Santorum is Coming for Your Birth Control Rick Santorum Opposes Contraception Now… moving on. I may be registered as a Democrat – but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t vote for the most qualified (or least-crazy) person for the job, regardless of party affiliation. I just want a person to run the country who isn’t a complete retard and can some day make the [...]

Your Unreasonable Expectations are Not My Problem

(Disclaimer: this is long) I’ve been buying and selling on eBay for well over 10 years. I’ve never had a problem. I’ve had stupid people that are just stupid but never ongoing, dumb issues. Until now. I was selling a Tron: Legacy package that I had won via Twitter from Progressive Insurance. It included a tshirt, a light up pen, a drawstring bag and a poster. The poster was oddly two sided with a mirror [...]

Statistics Tell a Sad Story

Let’s look at a couple Penn State statistics/rankings (as of 9/19/11, source): Passing Offense: 12th out of 12 in the BigTen. Passing Efficiency: 12th out of 12 in the BigTen Rushing Offense: 10th out of 12 in the BigTen Scoring Offense: 12th out of 12 in the BigTen Total Offense: 12th out of 12 in the BigTen This… is a problem. It also makes me very sad. This quarterback “problem” is becoming a team “problem” very [...]

That Thing to Not Forget

I wasn’t going to bother saying anything… but I at least wanted to share a photo. This is from Corning Credit Union. Apparently their 9/11 tribute involves making one of their buildings a flag. It actually turned out pretty cool.

Progressive Snapshot Final “Savings”

So our run of the Progressive Snapshot program is officially over. My policy just renewed and I got my final discount (8% for me and 18% for Jen). Whoopee! Along with finding out the final “discount” … which worked out to a total of $117 per 6 months, I also got my new renewal policy. That discount sounds pretty awesome when you consider that just over a year ago I was paying $900 every 6 months. Then [...]

Shopping Pisses Me Off

Every year Jen and I go to my family’s reunion at the lake, we end up bumming plates/utensils from family to eat dinner. We just don’t own any sort of “picnic” supplies. I figured this year we would change that and finally bring our own stuff. A “picnic basket” if you will… Seems like one of those things that would be nice to have around. Apparently every store in the area has other ideas. We [...]

Proper Customer Service

I have this pair of Puma shoes that I got last year while I was in California for work. They’re super comfortable and fantastic for driving. They’ve started ripping out on the bottom and sides and the soles are starting to come off. I figured it was time to replace them. After searching around, I found a nice pair on the Puma website but also a different pair at a good price on Zappos.com. I’ve [...]

Unlimited but… with Limits?

I’m no English major, but I’m pretty sure that the word “unlimited” has something to do with “not having any limits.” I don’t know why mobile phone companies can’t comprehend this. Or maybe it is simply marketing departments that don’t get it, I’m not sure. Either way, this is getting ridiculous. T-Mobile is the latest offender, offering a few “unlimited” things. Let’s look at a couple… How about an “unlimited” Family Plan with data, talk, [...]

How to Not Run a Fourquare Special

Some companies get it. Social media, that is. They can see something, understand it, and use it to its fullest potential. Some companies don’t get it. When I was out running some errands and grabbing some lunch today, I was reminded of a few of those companies in the latter group. The first example being Bed Bath & Beyond. I noticed they had a foursquare special running. Curious, since I occasionally do find my self [...]
