I'm thinking most of you know by know... as I've probably either personally told you or you follow me on Twitter (if you don't already, why not?).
But Jen and I are officially engaged.
I've had a few inquiries as to how it all went down... so this, as they say, is how it went down...
My initial plan (when I got the ring) was to wait until Valentine's Day. This seemed logical in a way... I mean, that's what normal people do, right? Wellll... we're not so normal. That is, we don't really do much for Valentine's Day. Rarely go out to eat that night (have you seen the lines? fuck that). And why do we need a special day to show each other how we feel? Why can't we do that any other day? But I digress...
The more I thought about it, the more I figured that wasn't really "us." So Saturday morning I figured "why not now?" and hatched a quick plan. I enlisted the cat for help.
He and I were waiting in the bedroom after she got out of the shower. She came out of the bathroom still in a towel and the cat and I were waiting with a little silver box. I told her that he wanted to help me with something and I think she then saw the box. "What is that?"
Uh... derrp. What do you think it is? 🙂
It wasn't some long speech followed by "the question," instead it was me opening the box and reminding her that Valentine's Day is for suckers (well, not in those words). I didn't even have to ask the exact question... she already said yes.
And it was done.
Being a Saturday, we didn't really have any plans, so we spent part of the day driving around and visiting family with the news. Her mom literally screamed when she found out. My mom kind of knew already. And my grandma was obviously happy for us. The rest of her family finds out through Facebook and the rest of mine finds out through my grandma.
And for those curious, no, there is no date set. We have no plans. And really, I don't want to start thinking about it yet - if only because it is not on the radar yet. It will be a few years before anything else happens. I'd like to be in a house first, to be honest. So we'll see how that all goes.
