Get Off My LawnI'm nearing the point where I feel like some random old guy that just hates on the younger generations for no good reason. Some of it is to do with the perceived attitude and actions of the "next generation" ... but another chunk I've discovered recently is also to do with music.

I used to be VERY into music. I followed a few related blogs and kept up on CD releases and tour dates for cool bands and tried to discover as many new ones as I could. This was all probably 8-10 years ago... when I felt like someone was actually making decent music.

These days I'm not as likely to go hunting around 3/4 of the internet to find a decent band to listen to. Just doesn't seem worth the effort. And I cannot stand most of today's "pop" crap that is out. I can't listen to the radio, ever. It drives me insane. Around here there are pretty much only "top 40" stations which play the same crap over and over again, country stations to appease the many hicks and rednecks in surrounding areas, and classic rock stations - which, similar to the top 40 ones, play the same things over and over because, let's face it, there's only a finite amount of "classic rock" out there.

So what's a guy to do? I occasionally jump around on Amazon to see if they have any recommendations for me. iTunes is practically useless for this though. It seems very cumbersome to ever get to or listen to music I may or may not like. But overall I just keep listening to same collection I've built up through my college years and from CDs I purchased 5+ years ago. There really is not a steady influx of new tunes...

And when I hear any new "pop" stuff, my head hurts. I want to punch the people responsible for publishing such garbage. But then again, someone is buying that shit. And in my estimations, it's those damned kids. The ones that need to get off my lawn.

Stop listening to shitty music! I mean, stop making shitty music? Or was it stop making the shitty music that people listen to and somehow decide to buy?

I'm so confused.

Oddly enough (or maybe not) I’ve found that Pandora finds new music for me that I can enjoy. Simply cranking the name of something I like into Pandora and clicking like/dislike as especially good or bad things come by it “learns” what it is I like and finds more.

It isn’t fast, but I have found new music that I enjoy and have never heard before.
