I discovered yesterday at random that I had (finally) been promoted to Superuser status on Foursquare (of Level 2). I’d been asking for this for quite a while and had helped to answer quite a few questions on the support site and have been trying to help as much as possible by reporting edits and merges.

They were “on hold” with promotions for a while but something must have changed (or I got a little help) because I finally got it. And it is nice to finally be able to clean up all of the crap in my area that I didn’t bother reporting (the list would have been too long).

I spent a large chunk of last night completing some merges and making general edits around the area. Added categories. Corrected names and addresses. Moved pins. All that fun stuff. It’s almost tolerable around here now!

I’ve done very few closes. Really I don’t think there are many venues to be legitimately closed around me. There are a lot of Homes, yes, but those are allowed venues. I merely marked them with the Home category and didn’t touch them.

One thing that has been super-helpful in cleaning up the area is a 3rd party site: CheckinMania. There you can enter a city name and it will plot the nearby venues on a map – also showing the category icon. Makes it easy to spot incorrect names, categories, and locations. I’d run through that list a few times and then look them up in 4SQ. Edits done.

At this point I’m trying to branch out a little bit further towards the mall and shopping areas. Other places I’m familiar with, basically. Just trying to make Foursquare a little better to use, one edit at a time. :)
